Top online poker sites pay out large prize pools

December 2, 2008 (InfoPowa News) — The major online poker websites PokerStars.com and Full Tilt Poker.com continued to attract large numbers to Sunday tournaments this week, generating impressive prize pools and high value prizes to the winners.
 
At PokerStars, Peter “twirlpro” Turmezy took down the top prize of almost $200,000, with his heads up opponent ‘fratzl‘ also taking home a six-figure paycheck worth some $132,176. The Sunday Millions tourney in which they competed attracted an entry field of 8,001 players, up 246 from the week prior, and generated a prize pool of $1.6 million.
 
Full Tilt’s $750,000 Guaranteed event also recorded increased entries with 3,668 sign-ups, but this still did not make the guarantee and FT had to put up the $16,400 balance. David “Doc Sands” Sands faced ‘andressoprano’ in the heads up, winning the event to claim the $132,787 first-place prize. His opponent collected a check for $80,250 for his second placing.

Online Poker Pro Takes Down FTOPS X Event

Poker pros continued the ‘year of the pro’ in Full Tilt Poker’s renowned FTOPS tournament series, securing deep runs and high prizes.

Cliff Josephy, better known to his high-stakes online peers as JohnnyBax, took down a tough field of 1,025 to win the Omaha Eight-or-Better event and his share of a $205,000 prize pool. A difficult final table included British pro and WSOP bracelet-winner Ram Vaswani.

In other events, the No-Limit Hold ‘em 6-max event created a $1.13m prize pool between the 1,032 players who signed up. David Pham took a hefty slice of that by finishing in third place, while other cashing pros included Chip Jett and Clonie Gowen.

The winners from Tuesday were losebigpots in Event 12, the $200$16 HA; LaTanyaWilliams in Event 13, $500$35 H.O.R.S.E.; and imabigkidnow in Event 14, $200$26 No-Limit Hold ‘em Turbo.

Poker Pro Wins One Million Dollars in One Day at Full Tilt

One of the world’s top poker pros, 34-year-old Monaco-based Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen,has been causing havoc in the big money online poker action at Full Tilt.com, earning a million dollars in a single day at one stage, reports the HighStakesDb.com poker information site. And playing against some of the best players around on Full Tilt, his October 2008 earnings thus far have reached $3.2 million.

On Monday night alone, Hansen won more than $589,000 at Hold ‘em, $145,000 in PLO, $152,000 in Omaha Hi/Lo, and $97,000 in a HORSEgame, demonstrating a mastery of the diverse poker styles and rules.

Originally from Copenhagen in Denmark, Hansen is famous for his loose and aggressive style of play, and started playing poker as a professional in 1997. Before that he was a world-class backgammon player who tried to make a living at the game in New York and abroad but found the pickings too slim.

In his outstanding poker career The Great Dane can boast a long record of wins in significant tournaments. He has won a record three World Poker Tour open titles, the 2007 Aussie Millions main event, and was the season one winner of the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament. His official career winnings recently topped $5,837,633, and he describes his approach to the game as: “I play the players, not the cards.”
